Full Story

Serbus, a Hereford-based firm known for its secure networking and communications solutions, has announced its acquisition of Westica Communications, a company located in Glasgow, for an undisclosed amount. This strategic move is set to enhance Serbus’s capabilities across various industries, including critical national infrastructure (CNI), utilities, emergency services, government sectors, transportation, oil and gas, and enterprise.

Westica Communications is noted for its expertise in designing, implementing, and maintaining secure microwave as well as UHF and VHF radio networks. With a wealth of over 30 years in specialist radio communications, Westica represents the fourth company to join Serbus since December 2022, marking a significant period of growth for the firm.

Simon Fieldhouse, the Chief Executive Officer of Serbus, described the acquisition as “another important step for Serbus in building a business to meet the increasing needs of CNI customers.” He emphasised that Westica shares a similar commitment to resilience, reliability, and customer service, which aligns with the core values of Serbus. Fieldhouse noted, “Sector expertise and a focus on security, operational health and safety, and compliance is core to the Serbus strategy,” underscoring the importance of these qualities in a rapidly evolving market.

The integration of Westica into the Serbus group aims to bolster the company’s security credentials, reinforcing its mission to connect and protect essential services. This aligns well with the current industry focus on enhancing security measures in the face of growing challenges regarding the protection and management of critical infrastructure in the UK.

He added that Westica’s addition to the portfolio of Serbus highlights their collective aim to elevate service standards within the sector while continuing to focus on customer needs. This partnership is not merely a business transaction; it signifies a commitment to advancing technology and service delivery in the critical national infrastructure domain.

The acquisition is also set to drive Serbus’s ambitions for national expansion. Both Stevie Dynes and Andy Hunwicks, directors at Westica, are committed to remaining with the company to ensure the smooth execution of their growth strategy. Dynes remarked, “Our success has always been built on technical expertise, responsiveness and customer relationships.” He expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating that the collaboration would enable further investment and enhancement of their offerings. “We are excited about the additional capabilities and opportunities this partnership will create for our customers and colleagues moving forward,” he added.

As Serbus continues to develop its network of businesses concentrating on secure infrastructure and communications, this acquisition comes at a critical time. The company, supported by Aliter Capital, aims to solidify itself as a leading provider in managed services catered to critical national infrastructure across the UK, delivering secure communications that adhere to government-grade security standards.

Serbus’s foundational strategy has been shaped by a robust history of supporting key sectors, including UK Special Forces, emergency services, government agencies, and the national healthcare system. This experience positions the company well to tackle the increasing complexities involved in safeguarding and managing critical infrastructure.

The landscape of secure communications is transforming, with a growing emphasis on integrated systems capable of addressing modern security challenges. As industries become more interconnected, the need for reliable communication frameworks will only intensify. With Westica onboard, Serbus can bolster its offerings to meet these demands effectively.

Industry experts note that this acquisition is reflective of a broader trend in the sector, where companies are consolidating to combine resources, expertise, and technologies to stay competitive. By bringing together the strengths of both organisations, Serbus aims not only to expand its operational footprint but also to lead the field in innovation and service delivery.

With the backing of Aliter Capital, Serbus is positioned to continue its trajectory of growth, focusing on securing vital infrastructure throughout the nation. The firm’s long-term vision includes setting standards for quality and security across its expanded range of services.

The partnership with Westica is expected to foster innovation, improve efficiencies, and enhance customer satisfaction, setting a new benchmark in the secure communications market. The combination of experience and technical expertise from both organisations promises to deliver added value to customers, particularly in sectors where reliability and security are non-negotiable.

As Serbus embarks on this new chapter, the implications for its clients and the broader market may be profound. Enhanced communication systems will contribute significantly to operational readiness across a variety of sectors critical to the UK’s infrastructure. In this evolving landscape of technological integration and security, Serbus looks poised to be a prominent player in shaping the future of secure communications solutions.
