Full Story

Emirates Driving Institute (EDI), headquartered in Dubai, has been honoured with the prestigious RoSPA Gold Award, underscoring its steadfast commitment to exemplary health and safety standards. Recognised in two categories—Health and Safety Performance and Fleet Safety—this accolade reflects EDI’s resolute efforts to ensure the safety of both its workforce and clientele.

The RoSPA Awards, now in their 69th iteration, stand as the largest health and safety awards programme globally, attracting nearly 2,000 submissions each year from more than 50 countries and encompassing over seven million employees. These awards aim to highlight those organisations and individuals that have set remarkable benchmarks in accident prevention and workplace safety.

Organisations entering the RoSPA Awards, whether for competitive accolades or non-competitive recognition, undergo a stringent evaluation process, reinforcing the high standards necessary to be recognised as leaders in fostering safer work environments. EDI’s achievement positions it as a frontrunner—demonstrating a commitment to establishing robust health and safety practices across the board.

The process of submitting entries for the RoSPA Awards not only acknowledges success but serves as a reflective practice that contributes to ongoing professional development (CPD). This element of self-assessment is valuable in reinforcing the foundations of health and safety necessary for continuous improvement.

Abdullah Amer Belhasa, the Director of Support Services at EDI, expressed pride in the recognition, stating: “We are honored to share that we have consecutively received the RoSPA Gold Awards for Health and Safety performance and Fleet Safety, for the past six years. This recognition is a testament to our unwavering commitment to ensuring safety both within and around our organization.”

The RoSPA perspective on EDI’s achievement was also shared by Julia Small, the organisation’s Growth Director. Small remarked, “Emirates Driving Institute should be proud of the hard work and commitment to keeping people safe that has resulted in a RoSPA Award, which honours those organisations who have achieved the highest standards in health and safety in the workplace. RoSPA regards Emirates Driving Institute as a strong example of the importance of making accident prevention central to any successful organisation, not just for the benefit of employees, customers and clients, but also society as a whole.”

Also highlighting the importance of these awards, Dee Arp, Chief Quality Officer of NEBOSH and Head Judge of the RoSPA Awards, emphasised that “recognising excellence in health and safety is essential to ensure we celebrate achievement, but it is also about reinforcing a culture of care, accountability and continuous improvement.” She added that the awards are a vital reminder of the significance of prioritising employee safety and wellbeing, underscoring that these efforts contribute to long-term organisational success.

In its 69-year history, the RoSPA Awards scheme has maintained a reputation as the longest-running initiative of its kind in the UK, drawing entries from a diverse range of global organisations. This endorsement makes the awards highly coveted within the health and safety sector.

EDI’s history traces back to 1991, where it has grown from humble beginnings to emerge as one of the leading driving schools in the UAE and the Middle East. The institution has witnessed approximately half a million students gain their driving licences through its comprehensive training programmes. With a diversified fleet exceeding 500 vehicles, EDI offers instruction across various categories, ranging from Light Motor Vehicles to Heavy Trucks, ensuring tailored training for all students.

Additionally, EDI boasts a team of over 500 qualified instructors, representing numerous nationalities to accommodate language preferences, thus enhancing the learning experience. This multilingual instruction plays a crucial role in facilitating effective training for students of diverse backgrounds.

Looking ahead, Emirates Driving Institute aims to expand its reach beyond the UAE while continuing to focus on customer satisfaction and investing in innovative technology to empower students on their journey to independent driving.

For further information or inquiries, potential students or interested parties are encouraged to visit EDI’s official website or contact their support team directly.
