  • Product contains undeclared allergens posing health risks.
  • Milk is not listed on the product label.
  • Affected batch code is L6232PB796, best before May 2027.

Full Story

Unilever has issued an urgent recall of its Pot Noodle Piri Piri Chicken flavour due to the presence of undeclared allergens. The company has advised customers not to consume this product, which has been found to contain milk, a potential health risk for individuals with allergies or intolerances to milk or its components.

The recalled batch is identifiable by the code L6232PB796, which is printed on the top of the foil lid, and carries a best before date of May 2027. Unilever noted that milk is listed as a precautionary “may contain” ingredient on the packaging, but this does not meet the necessary labelling requirements for consumers with allergies.

Unilever stated, “We are recalling this batch because the safety of the people who buy and use our products is our top priority.” The company reassured that other batches of Pot Noodle Piri Piri Chicken flavour and other Pot Noodle products are unaffected by this recall.

Customers are encouraged to return the affected product to stores for a full refund. For additional information, shoppers can reach out to the Unilever support team. The Food Standards Agency has recommended that Unilever notify relevant allergy support organisations to inform their members about the recall. Unilever has also expressed apologies for any “inconvenience and concern” this issue may have caused.

What this means for your site

This incident highlights the critical need for robust allergen management systems in food production. To avoid similar occurrences, organizations must ensure compliance with the Food Safety Act 1990, which mandates proper labeling and transparency regarding allergens to protect consumers with food allergies. It is essential to conduct regular audits of labeling practices and ingredient sourcing.

One concrete step to prevent such issues is to implement a strict review process for packaging materials and ingredient lists, ensuring that all allergens are clearly declared and verified against all batches produced. Additionally, training staff on allergen awareness and the importance of accurate labeling is crucial. Establishing clear communication protocols with suppliers about allergen content can further mitigate risks associated with undeclared allergens.
