Full Story
St Helens Borough Council is hosting a series of community events aimed at providing practical advice and support to residents of all ages as part of its One Neighbourhood Programme. The first event, Celebrate Healthy Ageing, is scheduled for Wednesday, September 30, at Community Hub North, located at Moss Bank Community Library, from 10am to 2pm.
This event coincides with the International Day of Older Persons and is targeted towards older residents, carers, and individuals who may face health and wellbeing challenges. Councillor Stephen Claybrook, cabinet member for leisure, culture and heritage, emphasised the importance of these events. He stated, “These events are a fantastic opportunity for local residents to find out about the wide range of support available in our communities while also meeting new people and taking part in enjoyable activities.”
Councillor Claybrook added, “Whether it’s learning more about healthy ageing, accessing practical advice ahead of winter or simply spending time with others, these events are all about helping people to stay connected, independent and well. I would encourage anyone who would benefit from the support on offer, or who simply wants to know more about local services, to come along.”
During the Celebrate Healthy Ageing event, attendees will have the chance to interact with representatives from various support services, including the Library Home Delivery Service, Willowbrook Outreach Service, Fraud Awareness Team, Fall Prevention Service, and Affordable Warmth Team. Throughout the day, advice and guidance on available support and referral pathways will be provided. A highlight of the event will be House of Memories On The Road, a mobile museum experience offering immersive cinema and activities focused on reminiscence.
The event is open to everyone, including family members and those interested in healthy ageing, with refreshments available. Following this, a second event titled Warm, Well and Active will take place at Garswood Community Hall on Wednesday, October 28, also from 10am to 2pm. This event aims to help residents prepare for winter through advice, support, and activities that promote health and wellbeing. Organisations such as Family Hubs, the Stop Smoking Service, and the Affordable Warmth team will be present.
Participants can engage in a guided autumn wellbeing walk led by the Wellbeing Service and benefit from free bicycle servicing and safety checks provided by Dr Bike. Like the first event, the Warm, Well and Active session welcomes attendees of all ages, including families and older residents. Visitors can enjoy refreshments, connect with community members, and learn more about support available for health and safety during winter months.
