Full Story

Mitti Aims to Transform Frontline Operations from Manchester Hub

In a significant evolution for one of Manchester’s prominent tech firms, SafetyCulture has officially rebranded to Mitti, marking a new chapter in its journey after a decade in the city. Originally founded by Luke Anear in a garage in Queensland, Australia, the company ventured into the UK market in 2016, establishing its presence in Manchester. Two years later, it expanded its footprint with a new larger base located on Mosley Street.

The rebranding signifies a strategic shift for Mitti as it seeks to broaden its offerings beyond solely health and safety management. The company aims to develop an “all-in-one operations system” that caters to the needs of frontline workers, with plans to enhance its artificial intelligence capabilities.

The name “Mitti,” derived from a word that means ‘middle’, encapsulates the firm’s vision of positioning itself at the core of operational processes, where significant decisions are taken and daily tasks are executed. This rebranding is not just cosmetic; it reflects the company’s commitment to bridging the gap between frontline employees and executive leadership through innovative software solutions.

Mitti’s offerings are specifically designed for industries where workers operate outside of traditional office environments. It boasts a diverse clientele across sectors such as manufacturing, construction, and retail. Its software is tailored to gather valuable data from workers actively engaged in the field, making it an essential tool for businesses that rely on these employees.

Since its inception in the UK, Mitti has expanded its reach significantly, now partnering with over 18,000 organisations. High-profile clients include Unilever, H&M, Domino’s Pizza, and Network Rail. Notable within the North West region is the structural steelwork company William Hare, which has executed more than 180,000 inspections through Mitti’s platform, reportedly saving over a million sheets of paper in their operations.

Dawid Jaworski, the EMEA lead at Mitti, articulated the company’s journey, stating, “Ten years ago we were a handful of people in a small Manchester office trying to convince businesses that the clipboard had had its day. A decade on, this city is the base from which we serve the entire EMEA region.”

He further elaborated on the significance of their location, remarking, “The customers we serve are the industries this region was built on. That proximity matters. Being surrounded by it keeps us honest about who we’re building for.” This local focus underscores Mitti’s roots in Manchester, a city that has matured alongside the tech company itself.

Manchester has emerged as the largest tech hub outside London, boasting over 10,000 technology enterprises within its boundaries. This vibrant atmosphere has fostered an environment conducive to innovation and collaboration, which clearly aligns with Mitti’s ethos. As Jaworski emphasized, “We built our first decade in Manchester, and we’re building the next one here too.”

In 2024, during a visit to the SafetyCulture office (now Mitti) for its opening, BusinessLive noted the company’s emphasis on employee well-being, reflected in its contemporary office design and amenities. Staff members enjoyed perks such as an in-house chef, a bar area, a games room, and recreational facilities, which included a distinctive purple pool table. Such features illustrate the company’s commitment to creating an enjoyable work environment for its employees, which in turn fosters productivity and creativity.

With its new branding and comprehensive operational focus, Mitti is positioning itself as a leader in the field of frontline operations. The initiative not only enhances its software capabilities but exemplifies its understanding of the evolving needs of modern businesses. The company is set to leverage cutting-edge technology and user-centric design to ensure that it meets these demands.

As Mitti lays the groundwork for the next decade, stakeholders will be watching closely to see how it continues to integrate innovative solutions within the industries it serves, particularly as market dynamics shift and the demand for agile, data-driven approaches increases. With a decade’s worth of experience and a clear vision for the future, Mitti is poised to make a significant impact in the operational landscapes of its clients across the EMEA region.

In as much as Mitti has grown and evolved since its establishment in Manchester, its commitment to fostering strong connections between workers at all levels remains steadfast. The company’s trajectory paints a picture of a thriving tech entity, one that is not merely focused on growth but dedicated to empowering those who operate at the frontline of various industries. As it embarks on this new chapter, Mitti embodies the spirit of innovation and resilience that defines Manchester’s tech community.

Our Thoughts

The article does not highlight any incidents or breaches of health and safety regulations. As such, there are no specific actions to suggest for preventing incidents, nor are there any key safety lessons to be learnt. The focus is primarily on the company’s growth, rebranding, and operational improvements without mention of safety issues or incidents that require analysis.
