Three prominent UK supermarkets have initiated an urgent recall of £2.49 sausages over a serious allergy concern. Shoppers have been advised to refrain from consuming The Jolly Hog’s Leek Porkers 6 British Sausages, which include undeclared milk, posing a risk to those with milk allergies or intolerances.
The recall specifically pertains to packets with a use by date of 28 September 2025. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has confirmed that the 400g packs contain milk, which is not mentioned on the packaging, heightening health risks for susceptible individuals.
This recall impacts Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, and Morrisons. Customers who have purchased the affected sausages are encouraged to return them to their nearest store for a full refund.
Jolly Hog has issued a notification at the point of sale, advising affected customers against consuming the sausages. “If you have bought the product with the date affected and have a milk allergy, we advise you not to eat them. Customers are asked to bring it back to their nearest store and a full refund will be issued,” the company stated. They also expressed their apologies for the inconvenience caused and thanked consumers for their understanding.
Additionally, the public is encouraged to reach out to allergy support organisations which will disseminate information regarding the recall to their members.
The FSA regularly publishes Product Recall Information Notices to alert consumers and local authorities about food safety issues. These notices may escalate to Food Alert for Action communications, which prompt specific actions from local authorities concerning product safety.
This recall follows another incident involving Farmfoods, which has withdrawn its Chicken and Spinach Pasta due to the unlisted presence of crustaceans, fish, and molluscs, raising potential health risks.
Several supermarket chains, including Tesco, Morrisons, and Waitrose, have also had to recall Spoon Cereals’ Cinnamon + Pecan Granola after it was discovered to contain gluten and peanuts, allergens not declared on the packaging.
In light of these recent developments, chief consumer reporter James Flanders emphasizes the importance of product recalls in safeguarding consumer health. Generally, manufacturers bear primary responsibility for product recalls, but retail chains are typically tasked with informing customers of potential risks.
Consumers are advised to regularly check manufacturers’ websites for any issued safety notices regarding products they own. For appliances, customers must register their items with manufacturers to receive critical safety updates effectively. If a recall occurs, following the manufacturer’s instructions is paramount, particularly if it involves returning items for a refund or replacement.
Experts have cautioned that some recalled products could trigger severe allergic reactions in vulnerable individuals. A recent recall on houmous was also announced, following contamination concerns with JS Classic Houmous and JS Lemon & Coriander Houmous potentially containing Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC).

This recall is a serious reminder that accurate labelling is a fundamental safety requirement. Anyone with a milk allergy could face life threatening consequences if allergen information is omitted. Retailers and manufacturers must review their ingredient controls and supplier checks to prevent these failures. Consumers should follow the recall advice and return the product for a refund, and anyone who has consumed the sausages and is experiencing symptoms should seek medical help immediately.
